WASH program
MHDO’s WASH Programs are dedicated to improving community health and promoting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in remote areas. These programs encompass various interventions to address essential WASH needs:
- Safe Water: MHDO implements measures to ensure access to clean and potable water for communities. This includes constructing deep tube wells, shallow tube wells, and other safe water sources.
- Sanitation, Personal Hygiene, and COVID-19 Prevention: MHDO places a strong emphasis on promoting personal hygiene practices, implementing environmental sanitation initiatives, and explicitly addressing COVID-19 prevention measures. The objectives are to improve sanitation conditions, prevent the spread of diseases, and protect community members from COVID-19. MHDO actively promotes people about COVID-19 prevention methods like hand sanitization, mask use, and physical distance, and incorporates these steps within their sanitation and hygiene programs to protect people and communities, especially during the COVID-19 epidemic.
- Construction: MHDO undertakes construction projects to improve water storage and supply capabilities in communities. This includes the construction of mini-dams, ponds, wells, Pipe Water Supply Systems (PWSS), and Rainwater Collection Tanks (RWCT).
- Basic Health Awareness Training: MHDO conducts training sessions to raise awareness about basic health practices, hygiene promotion, and disease prevention among community members.
Main activities include:
- RWCT (5000 gal.) Construction
- Pond Fencing and Cleaning
- Hygiene Promotion and Community Sanitation Training
- Household Latrines and School Latrines Construction
- Tube Wells Digging and Pipe Water Supply
- Gravity Flow and Mini Dam Construction
- Water Storage Management and Spring Source Management
- Well Construction/Water Testing (EC, Chlorine, etc.)
Program Strategy for WASH Sector
MHDO has a well-defined program strategy for the WASH Sector, which guides its approach to address water quality impacts and promote community health. The key components of the strategy are:
- Collaboration with State and Local Authorities:
MHDO works closely with state and local authorities to ensure effective implementation of WASH programs. This collaboration enables coordination, support, and guidance in addressing water quality issues. - Upgrading Decentralized Systems:
MHDO aims to improve the performance of decentralized water systems through better management practices. This involves upgrading design, installation, permitting, inspections, operation, and maintenance procedures. - Integration of Recommended Practices:
The strategy emphasizes the integration of recommended management practices into MHDO’s WASH programs. By incorporating these practices, MHDO ensures consistency and effectiveness in achieving water quality objectives and protecting public health. - Mutual Water Quality Objectives:
MHDO aligns its efforts with mutual water quality objectives, working towards collective goals with relevant stakeholders. This collaborative approach fosters cooperation and synergies in addressing water quality challenges. - Public Health Protection:
MHDO’s WASH programs prioritize public health protection by implementing measures that ensure access to safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices within communities. This contributes to overall community well-being.
By adhering to its program strategy, MHDO aims to make significant progress in the WASH sector, improve community health, and enhance water and sanitation facilities in remote areas.
